Temporary closure at John Cary Early Childhood Center

JCECC-closed.jpgDear John Cary Early Childhood families and staff,

Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages, John Cary Early Childhood Center will be closed to our students Thursday, Nov. 19, through Thursday, Dec. 3. We anticipate being able to reopen our doors to children on Monday, Dec. 7. We will keep you informed if there are any changes to this date.

During this time, our students will shift to learning and therapeutic support through virtual means. Our teachers and case managers will be in touch with you to share details on our transition back to virtual learning.

Early childhood programs at satellite locations will continue operating in person. This closure only impacts the John Cary Early Childhood Center.

Why is a school closure needed?
Several of our staff are required to remain off campus following close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. We know that remaining off campus following an exposure or when someone is not feeling well is an important strategy to protect our school community from the virus. However, we do not have enough teachers and specially trained staff to provide for the health and safety of our students.

I know this places a burden on you and your children. I appreciate your ongoing support and patience as we make decisions in the best interest of the safety and health of our students and staff. Please reach out if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to support you during this time.  We will communicate any changes to tuition rates soon.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ann M. Westbrook
Director of Mehlville Early Childhood
